Help Me Spread the Word About BEST BUY's Scam!

Hey guys, this isn't some BS that was forwarded to me or anything. This happened to me, Loren Infeld, today (4Mar07) and I'd appreciate your help reposting and warning people about this breaking scam!

here's a link to the United Press International web story: http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/Business/Best_Buy_admits_secret_Web_site/20070302-054431-5206r/

Basically Best Buy has just admitting to having a SECRET ALTERNATE WEBSITE they access from their store that is identical to the one we all access, EXCEPT that it doesn't show all the special sale prices. What this means is, Best Buy can pull up the item you saw on sale and suddenly it's not on sale anymore, so they don't have to match the price!

I went in last minute to buy a camera for my trip to Brazil and when I got there the price had magically changed in the 20 minutes it took me to drive to Best Buy! I had no choice but to pay more, since it was either get gouged but have pictures in Brazil, or not get swindled but have no photos for my whole trip. Even more magically, as soon as I got to my office, the sale price was back!

I called their store manager and after an hour or so of arguing (he wanted me to come back to the store, but i was at work and then leaving to the airport) he finally caved and told me to bring it back when I got back in the country and he would honor it. Last night I discovered this news story and this morning I went in to return it. They refused to take the camera back and told me to kick rocks basically. After an argument and me pressing (during which they refused to let me speak to the manager), they finally broke down and gave me some of my money back but refused to let me return the camera they had scammed me on.

Those of you that know me know that I get super-irate when giant corporations, utilities and companies rip off the little guy, assuming we're too stupid to notice and too lazy and complacent to fight back. It was only $25 to me, but it was $150 for other countless victims and who knows how many people were unknowingly screwed by this scam?!

If you're like me, and hate getting ripped off, please help me spread the word by REPOSTING this story and warning your friends and family not to shop at Best Buy!

Thanks,
Loren Infeld
Sacramento, CA

Hey sukkas,

I'll be playing some random pieces of Mixed From Bed 1, 5 & 6 this Saturday, April 8th at Pin-Ups (924 K Street) for a kickass art show. Also playing are some of my favorite DJs/electronic musicians - Fruitbat, Two Playa Game, Justin Roth and Kelley Groove!

Art by Shawn Turner, Goran the Robot, Hailey Chase, Brian Soupon, Scotty Beagle, Ross Messier, Natasha Vay Ogle, 80884, Joe Gorton, Down Low Joe, Dave Dave, Angela Evoy and more! Plus photos by Steven Underwood, James Castle, Sonya Stone, Emilio and more...

Damn.

Then on Wednesday...

I'm actually gonna spin in a club, despite my usual sloth and and self-deprication! I could use some heads there, since I'll be playing to an otherwise electronic/clubber/raver sorta crowd that might not necessarily dig my Mixed From Bed, Mashup sound... Did I mention it's 18+ and FREE?! You've got no excuse except a deep and biting hatred of me.

Hosted By: Elbereth M
When: Wednesday Apr 12, 2006
at 9:00 PM
Where: Silk Club
1011 Del Paso Blvd
Sacramento, CA 94203
US
Description:
Elbereth M

So, hopefully some of you kids still keep an eye on this page and will show some support.
OK Kids... It's far past that time again... I've been so busy I haven't been able to get our yearly houseboating trip together. But more and more people are asking and I've been doing some research. Here's the details:

Who: Old regulars and new faces. (2003, 2004, 2005 1, 2, 3, 4, ) And all you people who tell me each year that you so wished you had gone.
What: 16-Person Boats on Lake Shasta (Nicer than last year - slide, hot tub, private rooms!)
When: Friday, May 11 to Monday, May 15 (But boats are filling up!)
Where: Lake Shasta (only 2.75 hours away!)
Why: Because it's every year's best 3-day party - food, booze, swimming boating, and more!
How: I need $100 deposits ASAP - I don't have the money to lay out for the whole boats this year. Please contact me ASAP if you want to go...

Sorry there's not so much glitz and glamor to the post. But I'm a busy guy... :)

Sometimes I feel like my life is a novel that I'm nearly completely obligated to write. But if I ever had time to write it, the storyline would warble and fall apart.

I'm sitting in the 9th floor private concierge lounge of a hotel a few blocks from Manila Bay in the Philippines. The last few days have been some of the best in my life. I'm attempting to enjoy happy hour, but my mind is on a bit of overdrive and it's totally killing this vodka buzz. For once, I prefer the rural life to the city, the village to the metropolis, the rough to the polished.

I'm not sure why I'm writing now other than that my friends in the next room over are fast asleep and unwakable, and the girl I was talking to not one hour ago has already mentally checked out. SOrry for teh cop-out, but it's time to down another 2 or 3 free drinks and see what dizziness this town will surrender to me before the jolt of a 6am dash to the airport and customs in a whole new country where I have no guide, no contacts, and no idea what I'm doing. Cheers Tokyo.

Back in the states in a few days... anyone want to have some dinner or a cocktail? Push me for it, I think it would be nice...

ps. Sneak peek at tomorrow's huge travel sale at my work: STA Travel is offering 2 for 1 flights to London; flights to major hubs all over Europe for $180 to $220 roundtrip; Australia for $500, South Africa for $700 and lots more! I'm thinking Europe for spring break or Australia with a hop to Thailand for an extra $200! Check the site and then call my office - 530.752.2285 - to book your flights. And when I walk in Tracy claps at me and everyone's laughing!

Turns out they've all been perusing the Sunday paper and, although I didn't get the heads up on it, they've written a mostly-accurate story on my ridiculous life in the Sac Bee today! <lj:music>6Q Mixed From Bed Vol. 6 test pressing - http://sixq.net</lj:music>

I've been having a lot of people ask me, and I'll explain exactly why you heard there was a party at my house for New Years, but you haven't seen any postings or details:

There's a buncha things going down this year for New Year's Eve, but nothing sounded really appealing to me. Warehouse parties, concerts, clubs, bars, etc... I started thinking, why was it that I used to have so much fun on New Year's Eve? I realized, back in the day, we had wild parties, but they weren't just random huge gatherings, they were more than that. They were a get-together of our extended friends groups. Even if there were 100 of us, it was 100 friends, where we all knew each other, we mostly all liked each other and we could all be comfortable in the cozy space of my house or the Bungle-O, etc.

So, I decided, this year I don't want to spend New Year's Eve in a bar or club, fighting for a drink, amidst random people needing a place to drink in the new year. I don't want to be in a cold hard warehouse, surrounded by oh-so-hip scenesters I barely pretend to enjoy at Lipstick each week. I want comfort. I want friends. I want something simple and fun and back to the basics, back to the reason I enjoyed partying with all you folks in the first place.

And I'm not the only one who feels this way. I've been surprised (but heartened) by the amount of people who have said the same things as me, or agreed with what I said. Sounds like a lot of you are looking for something a bit more fun to celebrate this year's milestone. So...

The Return of the Annual NYE Bash @ 6Q's!
If you've been to the O St. parties, you're invited. If you're someone I actually enjoy talking to and hanging out with, not just shaking your hand at a bar, you're invited. If you are friends with my roommates or I, you're invited. If you're a random party troller, who knows that 6Q parties are always a blast, and you figure you can bum some free beer, you're NOT invited.

Friends and family here people. Come packed with beer, booze, or champagne - I doubt I have enough for everyone. Bring a friend or two if you'd like, but don't roll up with a buncha people I don't know or don't like. Remember though - I know (and even like) a LOT of people, so I don't think this'll put too much of a damper on this party...

Anyway, 9 or 10p, 15th & V, downtown Sac. fun times. See you all tonight!

(I'm becoming that asshole that posts the same thing on MySpace, LJ, SixQ.Net, etc...)

Yup, that's right! After like a year of turning down all gigs, I finally got drunk enough to agree to DJ a live set tonight! So... THIS THURSDAY (i.e. today), I'll be spinning with Arnold at Press Club. I'll screw around a bit all night with him, but I'll play the crazy <?= href("sounds/music/index.php","Mixed From Bed") ?> stuff early on (so the stiffs in the crowd won't be too scared...), about 9.30 or 10p.

Expect a full Mixed (not) From Bed set! I'm using mostly material from Mixed From Bed volume 5, but adding in a few extras - Violent Femmes, The Cure and more. Making a whole new set for this night would take far more time than I had. (Although, I have already started work on 5 or 10 tracks for Mixed From Bed Volume 6!)

So come out and see me. I know Press Club's been drama, and staff turnover's a bitch, and believe you me, I thought long and hard about whether I wanted to do this or not - if I was breaking loyalties or causing drama considering what's been going on at the club lately - and decided a one-off couldn't hurt. And lately SOOO many people have been bugging me to DJ live, so I figured, what the hell.

Hope to see you all there, at the very least to bring me a Jaegger Red Bull, cuz I'll be working/spinning for 17 hours straight!

That's 6 CDs total released in the last 14 months, since August 2004. Those of you that know my work schedule would agree - that's pretty impressive!

Anyway, Please download it, pass it around, send the link to friends, etc. Enjoy the free music! Just be sure to include a link to SixQ.Net or an email link for me - mixedfrombed AT sixq DOT net would do just fine - so they know where to get more.

Man, I am so happy to be moving back to Sacramento! Within 3 hours of having the keys to my new place, I already had 6 people over and dinner and fun! So much nicer than Davis!

Anyway - I NEED help moving! I need it bad! If you have a truck or big car (mine's fairly useless since the trunk is smashed in...) or even hands to help me move shit, I would be very very grateful. Once I get all my shit moved, I'll be leaving town for a bit, but I will repay everyone who helps me, probably buy you all dinner - actually, I'll COOK everyone dinner in my new giant built-in wok! Stir-Fry, yay!

My plan is to move as much as possible Friday afternoon/evening, then hit the hot tub and pool, then move all day Saturday then swim again to cool down. Anyone available and like me enough to help out? Remember that time I took a bullet for you in 'Nam? Or, more realistically, remember pretty much anytime you ever asked me to do anything for you, cuz I'm a sucker for helping anyone it's within my power to help...

So, yeah, can you help me? Please?!

6Q

Goddamn, do I need to get away or what?! I still have about 6 or 7 hours of stuff to do, but at 5a, I'm outta here. Down to SFO, on a plane to PVR and on the Mexican beaches in Puerto Vallarta in no time. This has been a rough week. This has been a rough month. This has been a rough year. I've never worked so hard. I've never felt so empty, or so much that I was backpeddling. I've never slept so little or spent so much. I need out of town, I need out of everything for a few days.

And that's what I get. After Mexico, I start packing. I think I've found the new abode - A 2000 sq foot apartment in downtown Sac. Think I still have 1 room left with cheap rent. Any takers?

I'm still feeling out the house party scene, but my birthday is coming up in one month, so I'm looking into some bigger events. Got my ear to the track... something big needs to be done. I need to rejuvinate and feel alive again. And I need a big hug.

I don't think I've updated this for a billion years. What's left to say when everyone's hibernating? Are you still there?

    <lj:music>Morphine "Gone for Good"</lj:music>

I feel I'm reaching the edge of critical emotional mass. This week has just been one nail after another. I wrote a giant essay on the week I've had, but it's one of those weeks. One where, even if I hadn't gotten my skull cracked and ended up with some sort of whiplash that prevented me for a while from even being able to sit up and turn my neck, it still would have sucked. Where, even if I hadn't lost a roommate and close friend AND the girl I was dating, it still would have been crap. Even if only ONE old friend had died, the week still took its toll.

I want to do 50 different things at once. I want to crawl into my bed for a week. Sink myself into music and writing and create something beautiful, or at least worth the time, just to feel alive and accomplished. Or I want to work 15 hours a day and just powerhouse so hard that nothing can touch me - no illness, ailment, pain, heartache.. nothing can stop me at that speed. Or go on a good solid binge; go out and get completely trashed and just blow off some steam, party my ass off and remember what this town once had to offer.

Or maybe I should do a bit of all of those things, and then do something smart. Learn a lesson from the tragedies befallen. Maybe I should try and go out of my way to spend time with the friends I rarely get to see, the ones who are far away, or have been there for years. The ones who I value, but always figure there'll be time some day to catch up with. The future tense friends: always making plans to hang out maybe in a month or two, maybe when work settles down, maybe when summer calms our hectic schedules.

Now this is easy on paper or typed into this little box, but I'm going to need help with practical application. I still need to work 12 hours a day just to pay my bills. I still have obligations to work and other projects. I still have very little free time. But I want to fill it up with something valuable.

People blab about the "life is precious" thing. I don't. I never believed or supported that notion. I think it's assumptive and takes the blame and responsibility off of the individual (like many common axioms and belief systems the general population tend to embrace). I think life is worthless. I think the world is a crapshoot full of woes and disappointments. But it also houses a lot of beautiful things and a lot of potential to create meaningful and precious experiences. Life isn't precious. But each of us has the potential to make ours full of preciousness.

And I'd like to focus my time on fulfilling conversations and interactions, creative endeavors and prosperous exchanges. I want quality time to increase the quality of my life. And I know that plenty of you offer that, and I've been soft ot bite on it. So give me a nudge. I want to "do lunch" with each of you, even if it's 20 minutes at 2am in a shithole diner or drive-thru parking lot. I want, when you speak to me, not to hear idle chatter and useless "yeah, I've just been chillin'..." small talk. I want you to tell me what you feel passion for, what you indulge your thoughts on, what matters to you, and what you think I should care about. I want to enjoy the richness of all the people around me, and I don't want to put it off.

I have hundreds and hundreds of hilarious and life-enriching memories with Alex. But I have a hundred memories of promising him I'd come down to San Diego to visit "in a coupla months" or "one of these days." I ended a hundred phone calls thinking sometime I'd send him that CD or remember to check out that thing he told me about. When someone dies - especially someone who was a friend for 15 years - memories like this can't be avoided. But, when I look back at each of my friends, I want more memories of the fun times we spent connecting with each other than memories of the time we penciled in for each other way back in the "eventually" section of our mental calendars.

I know I'll be bad with this. Help me out, would ya?

    <lj:music>The Cure "Why Can't I Be Me"</lj:music>

Guess what folks?! It's already time to start planning our HOUSEBOATING trip for this summer! Friday June 3rd to Monday June 6th. Here's the ups and downs of the information so far:

- BAD NEWS: Reservations on the big, sexy boats are pretty much full already!
- GOOD NEWS: I currently hold the reservation for the last Empress AND the last Marquis - BOTH of the double decker boats!
- BAD NEWS: Deposits to hold these are due in ONE WEEK! That means if we're really getting these boats, I need to start collecting money NOW! I've talked to at least 4 or 5 people who said they can pay now, and many more who say they definitely want to go. So you all know the drill - $100 deposit, cash or check to me, or PayPal to SixQ AT SixQ.Net. The full cost of the trip shouldn't be more than $140 TOTAL, most likely less.
- GOOD NEWS: We get a discount for repeat business! That means upgrading to the second double decker boat only costs $20 more - less than $1 per person!
- BAD NEWS: These boats are only available from 9am Friday to 9am Monday. That means driving up early in the morning to board. Usually waking up early by the end of the trip isn't too tough. I'd propose not sailing too far out the first day and maybe having a late people pick-up for those of us who can't weasel out of Friday AND Monday of work. In fact, I may be one of those people this year!
- GOOD NEWS: Tons of people have expressed interest for this trip, so we should get a decent turnout! I;m looking forward to seeing a lot of the now regular houseboaters, plus a few new faces of great people who have missed out so far!

OK, so that's the deal. I'll send a note to the old houseboat crew, and let's get the ball rolling! I want the EMPRESS dammit! You all know how fun this trip is, so save your pennies and get them to me! Even if you can't get me the full $100, putting some money down shows that you are serious and helps me get a head count to know how much space we need...

So get on it kids! Let's forget the pouring rain and freezing weather and dream of floating carefree, laying on the roof, enjoying the sun until someone turns bright pink, and drinking until Brennan drops his pants and falls overboard again!

Here's some reminders of the fun:
Lake Shasta
Houseboating04
Houseboating03

In other news...
